First Lutheran Women
The First Lutheran Women support our members as well as individuals and organizations within our community and stretch throughout the world. Please check out the FLW page for more information about this wonderful ministry.

Quilters
During the months of January, February, March, and up to Holy Week, a group quilts in Fellowship Hall, Thursdays and Fridays, from 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. All are invited to come and help – no experience needed! The quilts are made for Lutheran World Relief. Each quilt is a one-of-a-kind, with a beauty all its own; made as a gift of home by caring people. First Lutheran quilters are both men and women and join about 2000 other Lutheran congregations across the United States who make quilts for LWR. Contact person: Joyce Grover (218) 283-0854.

Adult Education
Table Talk Bible Study – Thursdays at 12-1pm
Questions of Faith – currently on hold. Watch for more info.

Home Communion
Home communion is brought to those who cannot attend worship on the first Sunday of each month immediately following worship. If you know of anyone who would like to be added to the list, please contact the church office or Barb Berg at 218-283-3009.

55+ Club
This group meets every 4th Friday from Nov. – May. The fact that our 55+ has been functioning continuously for over 25 years will tell you that our people value and enjoy our meetings. Members take turns hosting the meetings which begin with a potluck meal at 5pm. In the winter meetings are held at 12 noon to accommodate seniors who prefer not to drive after dark. Rides can be arranged.
Seniors enjoy socializing during and after the meal, and sometimes there is a program or entertainment. For more info call Tom Wagner 218-283-4850

Community Outreach

  • Blood Drive – First Lutheran hosts an annual blood drive in April for Memorial Blood Centers.  We have hosted this mobile blood drive as an outreach mission for 13 years.  Memorial Blood Centers is the primary supplier of blood for over 30 hospitals in Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin.
  • Foot Care Clinics – Open to the public, contact Sharon Hedlund for appointments.
  • CROP Hunger Walk - Church World ServiceCROP Hunger Walk – The CROP Hunger Walk is an interfaith event sponsored by Church World Service where local communities host walks to raise funds to help overcome hunger and poverty around the world.  25% of funds raised stays in the community to support local food shelves.  First Lutheran has organized our area CROP Hunger Walk for many years since 1994.
  • Food Shelf – Providing support for our local food shelf is an active mission of First Lutheran church. Individually our members provide direct financial support as well as providing support in terms of food goods.  Two members of our congregation serve on the board of the Falls Hunger Coalition.

In addition we work as a mutual ministry team to provide food donations during two seasons per year.  Starting a week before Thanksgiving through New Years,  this team creates $5.00 bags of needed items at our local grocery stores.  As those bags are bought by customers, we take them to our local food shelf.  In March, which is food share month, we do the same thing with the emphasis being on pounds of food given because it allows the food shelf to leverage their dollars of the coop they buy from .

In July 2011, we also set up a table at one of our grocery stores manned by member of 5 local churches to take monetary donations.

Because we see such a great need for this we are always looking for new ideas that would work in our community.
